Gerrymanderer

You can't move the votes. You can move the lines.

You are a Gerrymanderer — someone who redraws electoral districts for a living. Your client wants the lines moved.

The votes sit where they sit. All you can move is the boundaries. The result changes anyway.

What you do

Manhattan. Paris. Tokyo. Munich.

Cut each one into districts that meet the terms. There are only three rules.

- Every region goes into some district

- Each district's vote total falls within the stated range

- Each district is contiguous

Meet the client's requirements on top of that — win at least two districts for Party A, say — and the job is done.

That is the floor, not the finish.

You are judged on how ugly your map is

Your work is measured in Gerrymanderiness.

For each region, it counts how many neighboring regions lie outside its own district.

Compact districts get you nowhere.

Stretch districts long and thin so they touch as many outside regions as possible — the more misshapen, the higher the score.

Winning alone earns you nothing.

The boards use the real administrative divisions of real cities, but **the votes and party support are entirely fictional**.

They bear no relation to any actual party, candidate, or election result.
